Dr. Suzanne Bakken is an internationally recognized expert in biomedical informatics, nursing informatics, and public health data systems. She currently serves as the Alumni Professor of Nursing and Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University, where she has pioneered innovative research integrating data science, informatics, and health equity into nursing and population health practice.

Dr. Bakken earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and later advanced her expertise in informatics, becoming one of the first nurse leaders elected to the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI). Her career reflects a strong commitment to improving health outcomes through the integration of health data systems, informatics education, and patient-centered care.

At Columbia University, she leads the Precision in Symptom Self-Management (PriSSM) Center and is Principal Investigator on multiple NIH-funded studies focusing on machine learning, health disparities, and informatics-driven solutions for underserved populations. She has also directed the Center for Evidence-based Practice in the Underserved, advancing strategies for leveraging health IT to reduce inequalities in healthcare delivery.

Her research contributions span clinical decision support, mobile health, data visualization, and natural language processing to improve nursing workflows and patient care. Dr. Bakken has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and is recognized as a trailblazer in shaping the intersection between informatics, nursing science, and public health.

In recognition of her leadership, she has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (FACMI), highlighting her role as one of the most influential nurse-informaticians globally
