Professor Reinhold Haux, Ph.D. is a German scientist and academic leader widely recognized for his significant contributions to medical informatics, health information systems (HIS), and biomedical data management. His work spans several decades, during which he has advanced both the theoretical foundations and the practical applications of informatics in healthcare.

Dr. Haux’s academic journey led him to become a Professor of Medical Informatics at the Technical University of Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig), where he also served as the Director of the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics (PLRI), a joint institute of TU Braunschweig and Hannover Medical School. Under his leadership, PLRI became one of Europe’s premier research centers dedicated to health information science, electronic health records, and decision support systems.

From 2007 to 2010, Dr. Haux was the President of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), where he promoted global collaboration in health informatics research and the development of educational standards. His presidency was marked by efforts to integrate informatics into health policy, bridging academia, healthcare practice, and international organizations.

His research interests focus on designing and evaluating health information systems, biomedical knowledge management, and the long-term evolution of HIS architectures. He has published extensively, including textbooks and high-impact journal articles that have shaped the direction of the field. Notably, he co-authored “Medical Informatics: Concepts, Structure, and Applications”, which is widely used as a reference for students and professionals.
