Marc Raibert, born December 22, 1949, in the United States, is one of the most influential figures in robotics and mechanical engineering. As the founder of Boston Dynamics, he has been at the forefront of creating robots that move, balance, and adapt to their environments in ways previously thought impossible. His work has redefined the boundaries of mechanical systems, control theory, and biomechanical engineering.
Raibert’s academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, followed by a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1977. Early in his career, he worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and later as an associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University, where he started developing robots capable of dynamic balance and natural movement.
In 1986, Raibert founded the Leg Lab at MIT, a research group dedicated to studying the mechanics of legged locomotion.
