Description

  • Dr. Mireille Dubois is a highly respected French-Canadian bioethicist whose work at the intersection of medicine, ethics, and technology has shaped international healthcare policy and ethical frameworks for digital health innovation.

Born in Montréal, Canada, Dr. Dubois earned her medical degree from McGill University and later completed a doctorate in Philosophy and Bioethics at the University of Oxford. Her early research examined the ethical dimensions of clinical trials in low-resource settings, sparking her lifelong commitment to equitable healthcare practices.

Between 2012 and 2018, she served as Director of Ethics & Compliance for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), where she developed protocols to protect patient autonomy, privacy, and consent during humanitarian health crises. Her work during the West Africa Ebola outbreak helped guide WHO’s emergency use policies.

From 2019 to 2023, Dr. Dubois was a Senior Advisor at the World Health Organization, where she led the development of the “Digital Health Ethics Framework,” now adopted by over 40 national ministries of health. She also contributed to the drafting of UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on AI applications in diagnostics and predictive healthcare.

In 2024, she joined the University of Geneva as Professor of Global Bioethics and co-founded the Geneva Ethics Lab, which collaborates with medical startups and public health agencies to ensure ethical governance in digital and AI-based health systems.

Fluent in French, English, and Spanish, Dr. Dubois regularly speaks at international medical congresses, the UN Human Rights Council, and technology summits such as Web Summit and HLTH. She advocates for inclusive, culturally sensitive approaches to health innovation
