Dr. Amina El-Sayed is a globally recognized public health expert with over two decades of experience in epidemiology, healthcare systems development, and humanitarian response. Born in Cairo, Egypt, she earned her M.D. from Ain Shams University and later completed a Master’s and Ph.D. in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Throughout her career, Dr. El-Sayed has been at the forefront of health policy reform and epidemic response in low- and middle-income countries. From leading Ebola containment strategies in West Africa to shaping equitable COVID-19 vaccine distribution frameworks, she has played a pivotal role in protecting vulnerable populations in fragile settings.
Between 2016 and 2023, she served as the Director of Strategic Programs at the World Health Organization (WHO), where she led cross-regional initiatives focusing on universal health coverage, disease surveillance, and healthcare infrastructure in conflict zones. Her leadership was instrumental in establishing the Global Health Emergency Response Fund, enabling rapid mobilization of resources in times of crisis.
