Description
Dr. Carolyn McGregor is a globally recognized leader in real-time data analytics for healthcare, particularly in critical care and neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). She is the Canada Research Chair in Health Informatics and holds the title of Distinguished Research Chair in Health Informatics at Ontario Tech University. Over her career, she has pioneered innovative solutions for leveraging complex physiological and clinical data streams to improve patient outcomes.
Her most acclaimed initiative is Artemis, a big data platform that collects, integrates, and analyzes real-time physiological data from premature babies in NICUs. This system has been deployed in hospitals around the world, including in Canada, the United States, China, and Australia. Artemis enables clinicians to detect life-threatening infections and conditions hours before clinical symptoms appear, thus saving lives and transforming neonatal care.
Beyond neonatal analytics, McGregor’s research extends into military, space, and mental health applications, where she applies health data systems to high-stakes environments. She has collaborated with organizations such as NASA on astronaut monitoring, as well as with defense agencies to optimize health surveillance for soldiers under stress.
Dr. McGregor has published extensively in leading journals and has been recognized with numerous awards, including honors for innovation in big data applications. She also plays a critical role in shaping the global discourse on health informatics through her advisory positions, keynote lectures, and participation in international research consortia.
Her work is driven by the belief that continuous, real-time health data monitoring combined with advanced analytics can revolutionize healthcare delivery by making it more proactive, predictive, and personalized.
