Dr. Amina El‑Haddad is a highly respected public health specialist with two decades of experience shaping health strategies across the Global South. Educated in Egypt and the UK, she holds an MD from Alexandria University and a DrPH from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Early in her career, she coordinated emergency disease response with Médecins Sans Frontières, delivering critical interventions in complex, low-resource settings.
Between 2015–2022, she served as Director of Health Strategy at the Eastern Mediterranean regional office of the World Health Organization. In this role, Dr. El‑Haddad steered COVID‑19 vaccination planning, introduced region-wide disease surveillance systems, and developed pandemic resilience protocols for over a dozen countries. Her leadership was key to establishing WHO’s regional health security frameworks.
Currently, since January 2023, she is a Senior Global Health Advisor at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, advising on maternal and child health programs and epidemic preparedness. Based in Geneva, her influence extends through scholarly publications and keynote presentations at forums such as the World Economic Forum and the Global Health Summit.
