Dr. Leila Hassan is a pioneering neuroscientist and technologist renowned for her groundbreaking work at the intersection of the human brain and digital interfaces. With over 18 years of experience in research and innovation, she has become a global leader in neural decoding, brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, and neuroethics.
Born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco, Dr. Hassan earned her B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering at École Polytechnique in France before receiving her Ph.D. in Neuroengineering from MIT. She began her career at Neuralink as a lead research scientist, contributing to the early development of implantable brain devices aimed at restoring motor function in spinal injury patients.
In 2015, she co-founded SynaptIQ, a neurotechnology startup headquartered in Berlin, where she led a multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists and engineers to develop non-invasive BCI systems for use in assistive technologies and mental health diagnostics. Under her leadership, SynaptIQ’s flagship device “NeuroSync” received FDA approval in 2022 and is now used in over 40 hospitals across Europe.
In addition to her work at SynaptIQ, Dr. Hassan serves as a consultant for the World Health Organization on neurotechnology policy and ethical frameworks. Her work has been featured in The Lancet Neurology, Scientific American, and at international conferences including the Society for Neuroscience and TEDGlobal.
Dr. Hassan’s vision is to democratize access to neurotechnology, bridging the divide between cutting-edge science and real-world healthcare. Her dedication to advancing inclusive and ethical innovation continues to influence the global dialogue around human augmentation and neuro-futurism.
